St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., welcomes Chad J. Rahtz of La Crescenta as a member of the class of 2016.

Each first-year student participates in St. Lawrence University?s innovative First-Year Program, an introduction to the liberal arts curriculum taught in residence halls by faculty teams. Clear writing and speaking skills are stressed, and careful advising is provided for all students.
Rahtz graduated from St. Francis High School.

David Buickians of Glendale Community College has been selected to travel to Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. this fall to participate in a three-day on-site event.

He has been selected as one of 40 community and junior college students from across the nation to be part of the National Community College Aerospace Scholars project. Participants will apply what they have learned during the year to work with NASA engineers.

The program at Marshall Space Flight Center offers students from across the nation the opportunity to interact with each other as they learn more about careers in science and engineering. While at NASA, students form teams and establish fictional companies interested in Mars exploration. Each company is responsible for developing a prototype rover, designing a line drawing of the rover, and forming the company infrastructure including budget, communications, and presentations.

The on-site experience at NASA includes a tour of facilities and briefings by noted NASA employees.

National Community College Aerospace Scholars is a project based on Texas Community College Aerospace Scholars, originally created by the state of Texas in partnership with NASA and the Texas educational community.? Both projects are designed to encourage community and junior college students to enter careers in science and engineering and ultimately join the nation?s highly technical workforce.

Maia Shields of La Crescenta enrolled as a freshman at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. Shields?s current major is psychology.

La Crescenta resident?Fred Daneshgaran, a graduate of California State?? University, Los Angeles 1984-85 and current professor and chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at CSULA, will be recognized during the 38th annual Alumni Awards Gala on Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex on the Cal State L.A. campus.

The fall semester is underway at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Timothy Kyung, a mechanical engineering major from Montrose is part of the largest, best qualified and most diverse freshman class in the institute?s history, according to Georgia Tech President G.P. ?Bud? Peterson.

Samuel Frederich of La Ca?ada has been admitted to Carleton College as a member of the class of 2016. He is the son of Peter Frederich and Charlotte Frederich.
Ranked among the nation?s top liberal arts institutions, Carleton is a private, co-educational college of 2,000 students located 40 miles south of Minneapolis and St. Paul.

The City of Glendale Commission on the Status of Women recently underwent some changes in its leadership and composition. Denise Miller has been selected as chair and Lynda Burns as vice chair; both will serve a one-year term that started in August. Additionally, the commission welcomed two new student ex officio members, Sareen Jaburian and Aimee Yeghiayan, who will both serve a one-year term that started in September.
