Christmas Sponsor a Family in Need Program : Pretty River Academy

Each year Pretty River Academy families give back to our local communities. The Student Council will be leading and organizing the initiative this year. ?The Student Council is also in charge of the food drive with baskets in the front foyer by the Christmas tree. Both of these projects are being run as house activities. The Student Council have also organized a dress down day to enjoy the Christmas season.

The first project is the Sponsor-a-Family drive.? Each house will be sponsoring a family. Here are the details:

West?will be sponsoring a family from Collingwood. The family has a mom and dad, 2 girls who are the ages of 11 and 10, and a 9 year old boy. We will be collecting items for a food and gift hamper.

  • All students from West will be responsible for bringing in $5 which will buy a gift certificate from Foodland Grocery Store or non-perishable goods.
  • All of the?primary (preschool-3)?students will be responsible for the 9 year old boy. If you are having trouble, some suggestions include clothing in size 8, or anything relating music, wrestling, or Lightning McQueen!
  • All of the?junior(4-6)?students will be responsible for the 10 year old girl, who is girls medium, and is very interested in dogs and drawing!
  • ?The?intermediate(7-8)?students are responsible for the 11 year old girl, who is size 10/11 and is loves music and the girl essentials- nails, hair, makeup or jewelry!
  • All?high?school?students will be responsible for the parents. Some suggestions would be gift cards for Walmart, Canadian Tire, or the movie store. Both sizes XL, and towels are also a good idea.

South?is responsible for families from Thornbury. This house will be supporting the Beaver Valley Outreach in all the work that they do for the community. We will be collecting items for a food and gift hamper.

??All?students from South will be responsible for bringing in $5 which will buy a gift certificate from Foodland Grocery Store or non-perishable goods.

??Everyone?from the house is responsible for bringing in different items of their choice for a variety of families. Some suggestions would be winter clothing, toys for any age, pajamas, craft supplies, music, and gift cards for places such as Canadian Tire, Walmart, and the movies.

East?will be sponsoring a family from Collingwood. This family has a mom and three boys who are ages 8, 15, and 17. We will be collecting items for a food and gift hamper.

  • All?students from East will be responsible for bringing in $5 which will buy a gift certificate from Foodland Grocery Store or non-perishable goods.
  • The?primary(preschool-3)?students will be responsible for the 8 year old boy. Suggestions include clothing in sizes 12/14 and anything music/lego related.
  • Junior(4-6)?students will be responsible for the 15 year old boy. Suggestions include clothes in size men?s medium.
  • Intermediate(7-8)?students are responsible for the 17 year old boy. Suggestions are clothing in mens large, ear buds, hot paws, and chocolate!
  • High?school?students are responsible for the mom and dad. Suggestions include gift cards, socks and mittens, and family games!

North?is responsible for a family from Meaford. This family has a mom and dad, with a pair of twin babies! The dad is recently out of work, and the babies are 6 months old.

  • All?students from North? will be responsible for bringing in $5 which will buy a gift certificate from Foodland Grocery Store or non-perishable goods.
  • Primary?and?junior?students are responsible for the twins. Suggestions include diapers in size 1, formula- Parents choice LOW IRON only at Walmart, books, and small toys.
  • The intermediate (7-8)and?high?school?students are responsible for the mom and dad. Suggestions include gift cards to Walmart or Canadian Tire.

The second project is the Food Drive.

The Student Council have bins set up in the foyer at Pretty River. Each food item brought in will earn house points, and be tallied to benefit the house just before our Christmas break.

The last project is Dress Down Day.

On December 19th, there will be a dress down day! For 2 dollars, kids can wear white, green or red. All proceeds will go towards future plans of Student Council at Pretty River.
